Do I belong in here?
A few weeks ago I had the strangest thing happen to me. A young man walked through the doors of the store and stopped dead in his tracks. He looked around like he didn't know which direction to turn. I happened to be walking toward the door so I asked him if he needed any help. His reply was "Am I allowed to be in here?" That really set me back. What was it that made him feel that way and boy was I glad he had the guts to say it outloud. His comment came from the fact that he thought, from initial impression, that Occasions would be unaccepting of him due to his financial situation and his appearance. I immediately assured him that he was more than welcome, offered him a beverage and chatted with him for a while. We were able to take care of his needs and he left feeling much more at ease than he arrived.
Breaking the intimidation threshold is difficult sometimes. We want to have a beautiful store with amazing fixtures, lighting, artwork and such but for some people, the first reaction is one of "I can't afford this place".
Do me a favor, please. If you are a faithful client of Occasions, Thank You, for spreading the word that we are so much more than a pretty face. If you have never been in our place before, please come in just to see what we are all about. There are prices and styles all across the board. I guarantee you'll find something for every pocketbook. What you'll also find is a staff that truly cares. I'm not saying that they will always tell you everything you want to hear. A good friend tells you what you need to know. So, as we say in our ads, if you are just THINKING about a diamond or a special item to commemorate an OCCASION (couldn't resist the pun), please give us a chance to be your jeweler.
